| : | Central to the design of ARKEN is the coastal landscape in which it sits. It uses the scale and character of its surroundings as a starting point, producing a sharply sculptural building on a long, curved axis. The concept of the museum as a shipwreck, abandoned when its original proposed location was moved inland from the beach, is now being recreated. An Art Island is now being formed, characterised by bridges, lagoons and sand dunes. |
