: | One of the most expensive and complex concert halls ever built, DR Koncerthuset opened in 2009. Ateliers Jean Nouvel's striking design encloses a series of volumes within a 45-metre high rectangular box with blue screen walls. Opaque by day, the screen is animated with lights and projections at night. Inside, a seven-storey foyer houses four studios of varying sizes and design. At its heart is the remarkable 1,800 seat Main Hall, resembling a terraced vineyard. The ceiling and wall are surfaced in acoustically-excellent milled plywood, with wave walling in plaster. The Main Hall, clad in huge external plates, is suspended ten metres above ground level, with escalators leading up and around it. |
