|:||Hudson Architects have transformed the old Sunday School building built in 1879 into an impressive new education facility. The extensive level of renovation and refurbishment internally is hinted at externally, but not highly evident from the outside. The double height entrance space acts as a focus for orientation and also provides glimpses of accommodation on the other levels; above to the original staircase and beyond through the glass floor of the seminar room, and down to the lower level. The main double height central atrium space is entered at right angles from the entrance area, and the whole space is not revealed until you enter the space, as the main focus is the new stair. The main feature staircase that occupies the atrium space provides the public link to the upper floor. It also acts as a sculptural object with oak treads and a delicate water-cut steel balustrade which echoes the balcony detail of the existing building.|
