|:||This project involved the extension to the rear of a two storey semi-detached period house with a long garden plot, the majority of which occurs at a half level above the existing ground floor. Existing brick lined steps, path and planted terraces lead from a lower court to the upper garden. The house's existing two storey annex was partly demolished/reduced down to the half landing level to accommodate the new extension. The extension takes the form of natural slate clad, prefabricated and pre-insulated, structural timber framed roof and wall planes, considered as a continuation of the roof of the house, that pitch to form the complete enclosure and volume of the extension. This slate storey sits on a sand blasted, in-situ reinforced concrete slab, which partially cantilever's over the garden. The Sapele lined openings, with mirror coated low emissivity double glazing result from and emphasize the form of the slate storey, creating a separation from the existing house.|
